With each of Hearts of Iron 4’s many DLC updates, the gargantuan family of mods has grown further, with players turning Paradox’s every new addition to their own creative ends. Naturally, there’s also a smorgasbord of mechanical tweaks and fiddles to choose from, adding new systems for AI, textures, music and more. On top of the base game’s famously deep and complex set of systems and interactions, its open-ended sandbox version of World War Two has proven extremely fertile ground for modders to create alternate histories, ultra-detailed scenarios covering later (or earlier) conflicts, and even transport you to other game worlds entirely. Still, let’s ride this tiger of selection, and focus on four salient categories to encircle some of the best mods out there. If you want to plat Minecraft in VR, this is the best way to do it.Of all the Paradox titles to deploy massive mods libraries, none might compare with the whopping collection of over 20,000 Hearts of Iron 4 Mods. Vivecraft, however, goes a few steps further, with full support for physical interactions (like, y’know, actually mining with your arms) and even the ability to scale the world and become a giant within it. And, yes, it’s pretty good – we’d definitely like to see it come to Oculus Quest, but it works well on PC at the very least. Yes, the official Minecraft release has official VR support. It’s one of the older options out there, but still one of the best VR mods you’ll find.
On PC, Doom 3 Fully Possessed includes motion-controlled aiming and even support for teleportation locomotion. There is now an official version of Doom 3 in VR available, but it’s exclusive to PSVR and your mod options are just as good, to be frank. There’s even comprehensive motion controller support, making this easily one of the best VR mods. The game’s sense of exploration is unmatched and a lot of its mechanics fit into VR with surprising ease. But Nomai VR does a great job of porting the experience into VR all the same.
And it’s a fairly recent release, so hope isn’t lost.
Outer Wilds was a game we always hoped would get native VR support.
